About the Photographer
I’m Yi Xu, born in Shanghai, one of the most crowdest and most central cities in China, from a family that transmitted me the passion for traveling around the world and enlarged my horizons. When I was 13 years old, my father surprised me with my first camera, a Canon 5d Mark II that is still my company in all my journeys, including to Tibet. Due to the high altitude, every time I go to Tibet, I find difficulty breathing, and my brain is often empty, creating, somehow, an exquisite feeling of transcendence.
As an individual, a photography shot is not only to capture a moment, but it’s a way of creating a meaningful connection with the world and changing my perceptions. Perhaps, photography is the most authentic way to break the boundaries between people, to unite them by portraying their own version of their reality. Maybe photography creates overwhelming obstacles but being able to portray something that may be remarkable to someone translates the real meaning of this way of art that doesn’t need words and eternalizes something that I was the only one able to capture at that specific moment.
